Know before you play
The setting and gun-focused combat differ substantially. The Steam listing includes in-app and chance-based purchases.
The overlap is the survival activity, not the setting
Once Human’s official PC listing describes wilderness survival, crafting, monsters and building a personal territory. Those are practical overlaps with the routine that brings players back to survival games. The post-apocalyptic world and firearms make it a different fantasy. Include it when your group likes the activity loop; skip it when medieval weapons and a Norse atmosphere are essential.
Free entry does not remove the store
Steam labels the game free to play and discloses in-app purchases, including chance-based purchases. That is enough to distinguish it from an unrestricted open-source download. We do not infer that every purchase is cosmetic or make a blanket pay-to-win claim. Check the current in-game shop and official notices if the exact monetisation boundary is important to your decision.
An online game needs a group plan
The PC listing identifies MMO, online co-op and PvP features. Before everyone installs, agree on the current server or scenario options using the official notices. Live-service rules can change, so this guide does not promise that a particular reset schedule, transfer rule or cross-platform arrangement will remain the same. A similar-looking world is not proof that friends can join each other under every circumstance.
Check the installation budget
The current PC page lists 100 GB storage, 8 GB RAM minimum and an SSD recommendation. That puts it in a different installation category from Muck. If the group’s biggest constraint is an older laptop, limited disk space or a slow download, start with the low-spec comparison instead. Published minimums indicate a supported floor, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate.
Our fit assessment
Choose Once Human if you want a contemporary online survival game with house building and group monster fights, and accept its store and installation requirements. It is a partial alternative to Valheim, rather than a free version of the same experience. For a closer fantasy RPG mood, look at Veloren; for a smaller, straightforward co-op survival attempt, look at Muck.
